'Darzi' Fellowships in Clinical Leadership 2012-13
Welcome to the 'Darzi' Fellowships in Clinical Leadership section.
Fellowships in Clinical Leadership (also known as 'Darzi' Fellowships) have been one of the most successful clinical leadership development initiaves in the UK. Working with the London Deanery, NHS London established the Fellowship programme in 2009 and since then, three cohorts have participated in the scheme. The success of 'Darzi' Fellowships has been acknowledged by the adoption of the model in many other areas of the country, and the nomination for a HPMA Excellence in HRM Awards 2010.
London's ‘Darzi Fellows' are engaged in a twelve month ‘out of programme' experience based in an acute, foundation, mental health or primary care organisation. Mentored by their medical director (or nominated deputy) Fellows lead on a variety of priority service change projects. During the year Fellows participate in a bespoke leadership development programme that aims to support the organisational and leadership skills necessary for their future roles as clinical leaders. Due to the high status of the programme Fellows are in high demand for a variety of London-based clinical conferences, forums and knowledge-sharing events.
In 2012-13 the programme is adapting to meet the organisational needs of the NHS in London; focussing on primary care, extending its scope to include clinicians of all disciplines and aiming to support the development of Clinical Commisisoning Groups and their commissioning plans.
Clinical Leadership for Commissioning Fellowship Programme 2012-13
The Clinical Leadership for Commissioning Fellowship programme aims to support around 30 clinicians in 12 month project-based attachments to London’s Clinical Commissioning Groups with the aim of developing commissioning capability and commissioning plans across the capital. The programme builds on the success of three previous cohorts of ‘Darzi’ Fellowships in London and will, in addition to project-based workplace experience, provide participants with a supporting development programme over the course of the year.
