Short courses

There are many pan-London leadership courses run both by the Deanery and other providers for those interested in developing leadership skills, both in themselves and others. 

We are aiming to build a database of leadership courses so please do contact gemma.houghton@londondeanery.ac.uk to recommend any other available courses.

Clinical Leadership and the Educational Supervisor (London Deanery)

The London Deanery is currently offering a one day course specifically designed for Educational Supervisors and is targeted at the development of leadership and organisational skills in trainee doctors and dentists. The aim of the course is to:

* familiarise educational supervisors with the Medical Leadership Competency Framework (MLCF)

* provide an opportunity for educational supervisors to explore how they may support trainees in the attainment of these competencies through the structuring of learning opportunities in the workplace

* further the understanding of educational supervisors of different perspectives on workplace learning

Clinical Leadership in Action: 13th – 15th February 2013

Are you a Nurse, Doctor or Manager, working in the NHS, looking for a Leadership and Management course?
This new three-day highly interactive course draws together core knowledge, behaviours, attitudes and skills that are important for the senior role. Miad UK are working in partnership with PHAST, a professional public health consultancy service, to deliver appraisal and revalidation training for public health consultants and directors. They offer a range of short courses which aims to offer relevant training and education by frequently evaluating, researching and developing their programmes. Their range of courses include:

* Leading multi-discipline teams

Medicology

Medicology services offer a range of courses covering all areas of Leadership Development. Imperial College London

Imperial College London is again running a highly popular, modular short course in Applied Clinical Ethics. Every year the course attracts GPs and junior doctors. It is the UK's first professional course in clinical ethics designed specifically for practising clinicians.  No prior knowledge of academic medical ethics or moral philosophy needed.

Clemorton

The Clemorton Consultancy Effective Leadership Programme (ELP) is designed to give NHS employees with management or leadership responsibility key skills and competencies required to be more effective. Our 5 day programme has recently been certified by the CPD Service – allowing you to apply for the appropriate CPD credits through your professional body or employer organisation.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

Today’s Doctors, Tomorrow’s Leaders’ is a leadership programme run by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust to enable foundation doctors in North West Thames to develop their clinical leadership skills. 

“It is becoming increasingly evident that doctors need not only to understand the organisation within which they work but to take on more leadership and managerial responsibilities. TDTL aims to develop these skills at an early stage of our careers so that these capabilities are ingrained into our work ethic by the time we are Consultants. It has also become increasingly apparent that junior doctors have a unique insight into change management opportunities and this should be utilised in order to improve patient care. “

NHS Staff College - Care to Lead

The Staff College programme, delivered at UCL Partners focuses on the acquisition of engagement skills. Leadership combines emotional intelligence with the courage to raise the tough questions, challenge peoples' assumptions and personal risk. The Staff College leadership programme will be grounded in practical, proven methodologies delivered by a tried and tested faculty of established leaders drawn from the NHS, the Armed Forces and Business and Education. Royal College of Physicians

The 'Doctors as leaders' accreditation from the RCP explores key features of organisational leadership and examines the knowledge and personal qualities that are necessary for doctors to lead effectively in the NHS.

The accreditation consists of two interactive one-day workshops, which will enable doctors to explore the theory and practice of team leadership and organisational change, as well as examine their own individual leadership styles and explore ways of dealing with the demands of life as a consultant in the NHS.
